Double Intersection

Double Intersection at U+22D2 represents an intersection-like mathematical operator drawn with doubled strokes, suggesting a strengthened, variant, or author-defined form of set intersection. It is assigned to the Mathematical Operators block, alongside many relation and operator symbols used in formal notation. In ordinary set theory, the plain intersection sign is by far the standard way to mean elements common to two sets, as in A ∩ B. The double intersection symbol is much less common and is typically reserved for specialized algebra, lattice theory, order theory, or database and semantics papers where the writer defines a distinct operation that resembles intersection but is not the basic one. You may also encounter ⋒ in symbol catalogs, mathematical font tests, and systems such as equation editors that expose Unicode’s extended operator repertoire. Because it has no single widely understood meaning across mathematics, its interpretation should come from the notation key, surrounding definitions, or the paper’s conventions rather than from the shape alone.
