Rightwards Dashed Arrow

The Rightwards Dashed Arrow at U+21E2 is a right-pointing arrow with a broken shaft, used to suggest movement, direction, or transition in a lighter or less definite way than a solid arrow. It is a printable symbol in the Unicode Arrows block, alongside many arrows used for diagrams, notation, and text markup. Its main use is in mathematical and technical writing where authors want a rightward relation but not the standard implication arrow. In lecture notes or drafts, A ⇢ B may mark a proposed mapping, an informal transformation, a partial step, or a process that is not being asserted as strict logical implication. It also appears in diagrams, documentation, and user-interface sketches to show a route, handoff, or next step while visually distinguishing that path from a primary flow. For example, a workflow might use solid arrows for required steps and ⇢ for optional or tentative movement. Because it is less common than → and ⇒, its meaning is usually established by the surrounding legend, notation, or author convention. It can be confused with other dashed or long right arrows in dense technical text, so exact symbol choice matters most in formal diagrams and mathematical typesetting.
