Bamum Letter Phase-F Shu

Bamum Letter Phase-F Shu at U+16A1C represents the syllable or word value “shu” in the historical Bamum script, and it belongs to the Bamum Supplement block. This block records characters from earlier developmental phases of Bamum writing, especially forms used before the modernized script became more standardized. Its real use is mainly in the study and digital transcription of Bamum manuscripts from the Bamum kingdom in present-day Cameroon. Researchers, archivists, and font designers use characters such as 𖨜 when encoding palace records, teaching materials, or comparative charts that distinguish the script’s Phase-F signs from later Bamum letters. In ordinary contemporary writing, this character is uncommon; modern Bamum literacy materials more often use the simplified core Bamum repertoire. It is most likely to appear in academic publications, museum catalogues, Unicode test data, and specialized databases documenting African writing systems. Font support can be uneven, so the sign may display only in typefaces that cover the Bamum Supplement range.
