Latin Capital Letter Q

Latin Capital Letter Q at U+0051 is the uppercase form of the letter q, used as a regular alphabetic character in English and many other Latin-script writing systems. It sits in the Basic Latin block, alongside the core ASCII letters, digits, and punctuation used for everyday text and identifiers. In English, Q most often appears as the first letter of words such as question, queen, quick, and quality, and it is commonly followed by u to represent the sound heard in quick or quote. In names and abbreviations it keeps its normal capital-letter role, as in Quebec, Qatar, Qantas, and “Q&A” for questions and answers. Q also has established uses in notation. In mathematics it may label a point, variable, or set, while in science and engineering it often stands for charge, heat, flow rate, or a quality factor depending on context, as in Q for electric charge or a circuit’s Q factor. In commerce and reporting, Q1 through Q4 denote the four quarters of a year.
