Cyrillic Capital Letter Ie with Breve

Cyrillic Capital Letter Ie with Breve at U+04D6 is an uppercase Cyrillic letter formed from Ie with a breve, used for a distinct vowel letter in some extended Cyrillic alphabets. It belongs to the Cyrillic block and is the capital form of the corresponding lowercase letter used in running text. Its practical use is chiefly in Chuvash, a Turkic language of the Volga region written in Cyrillic. In Chuvash orthography, Ӗ/ӗ represents a reduced or short front vowel, so it appears in ordinary words, names, dictionaries, school materials, and local publications rather than only in scholarly transcription. Because the letter is visually close to Russian Е with an added breve, it matters in text processing for Chuvash: replacing it with plain Е changes spelling and can break search, sorting, or pronunciation guidance. It may also appear in linguistic work comparing Turkic languages or documenting Chuvash phonology and morphology.
