Katakana Letter Wo

Katakana Letter Wo at U+30F2 writes the Japanese mora o/wo in katakana, chiefly associated with the grammatical particle normally pronounced “o.” It belongs to the Katakana block and is the angular katakana counterpart of the hiragana を. In modern Japanese, this character is uncommon in ordinary running text because the object-marking particle is almost always written in hiragana, as in 本を読む, not katakana. It appears when that particle is deliberately set in katakana for emphasis, parody, typography, language teaching, or text that is entirely katakana. It is also seen in kana charts, dictionaries, encoding tables, and educational material that present the full katakana syllabary, often after ワ and before ン. In older or stylized writing, ヲ may reflect historical kana usage or a retro all-katakana style, but it is not generally used to spell modern loanwords; foreign “wo” sounds are more often represented by combinations such as ウォ.
