Khmer Digit Four

Khmer Digit Four at U+17E4 is the Khmer-script numeral for the value four, used wherever Khmer digits are written instead of Western Arabic numerals. It belongs to the Khmer block and has the Unicode category of decimal digit number, so it participates in numeric text rather than acting as a letter or symbol. In Cambodia, it appears in Khmer-language books, newspapers, signs, calendars, forms, price labels, school materials, and government or cultural documents. A year, page number, street address, quantity, or list item may use ៤ as the digit 4, either within an all-Khmer numeral string or alongside Khmer text. It is also used in Buddhist, historical, and traditional contexts where Khmer numbering is preferred for dates, chapter numbers, or manuscript references. In modern digital text, Khmer digits may be searchable and sortable differently from the visually familiar Western digits, so mixed numbering styles can matter in data entry and lookup.
