Latin Small Letter A with Acute

Latin Small Letter A with Acute at U+00E1 is a lowercase Latin letter a marked with an acute accent, used as a normal alphabetic letter or accented vowel in many languages. It belongs to the Latin-1 Supplement block, which covers common Western European letters, punctuation, and symbols beyond basic ASCII. In Spanish, Portuguese, Irish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Icelandic, and several other languages, á appears in ordinary words and names according to each language’s spelling rules. In Spanish it often marks the stressed syllable, as in está or sábado; in Portuguese it marks an open stressed a, as in água; in Irish it is the long vowel in words such as slán. In Central European languages, á commonly represents a long a sound, as in Czech má or Hungarian ház. It is also frequent in personal names and place names, so replacing it with plain a can change spelling, pronunciation, search results, and sometimes meaning.
